June 28 1846 Alexander Kerr, Hostler at Gordon Arms Hotel, Elgin and Jane Gillice his spouse had a daughter born 25 May 1846) bapt by Rev Francis Wylie named Ann Edward. Witnesses George Edward Drummer to town of Elgin and Ann Edward.

March 5 1848 Alexander Kerr, Hostler in Elgin and Jane Gillice his spouse had a son (born 6 January 1848 bapt by Rev Francis Wylie named John. Witnesses George and Ann Edward.)

In the 1861 census of Elgin - Emuneration division Burhal. We find both another child Hellen E. and  Hellen Edward listed as Mother- in- law .

Alexander Kerr died May 10th 1870 at Springburn, Near Glasgow.

He is then described as coachman married to Jane Gillies aged 56 years, Son of James Kerr, engine fitter and Jane McPherson. Cause of death cancer. Informant,   John Kerr, son.

This puts his birth in 1813 or early 1814 but cannot find it or the marriage of his parents.

In 1881 census of Kinross we find Jane living with her daughter. Daniel Donaldson and Elizabeth Kerr were married 28 August 1874 Central District of Glasgow.

In 1883 at Milnathort Orwell Kinross we find the death of Jane Kerr . Her death certificate has Jane Kerr widow of Alexr. Kerr Coachman  aged 48 (she was actually 58) 133 Jul 1883 at Milnathort Orwell Kinross

 Parents William Gilles -moulder deceased. Helen Gilles nee Edwards deceased  Died from Aortic Valvular incompetence & dropsy for 4 months. Informant Daniel Donaldson son in law.

In the 1841 census of Perth there is a James Kerr aged 25 born Perth a curriers clerk. Is this a brother of Alexander as cannot find this birth as well.

John and Sarah Kerr and daughter Jane left Glasgow on the "Oamaru" on 30/11/1874 and arrived in Dunedin on 17/2/1875.

John was a coach painter, and the family was brought to New Zealand by the Railway Department as assisted immigrants.

John Kerr  coachpainter   St Dunedin value of property 225 pounds

In 1909 Wises Directory shows them at 28 Park Rd, Sydenham, Christchurch

John Kerr died on 28/3/1926 and his death certificate shows.

Aged 78 foreman painter. Died at 185 Linwood Av. of heart failure.
