                                                                                             GILLIES (GILLICE, GILLES) FAMILY

Alexander Kerr and Jean Gillice domestic servant in Burghead after orderly proclamation of banns were married here 30 Dec 1844

From Elgin Parish Register

William Gillies and Helen Edwards were married on the 9th March 1811 by Dr Alexander Ranken one of the Ministers of Glasgow. William was described as a founder and Helen was a resident there.

Army records for Kilmainham Hospital, Dublin (ref B2784) have a William Gillis alias Gillies born Glasgow who served in the 49th foot regiment between 1813 to 1821. He was discharged aged 32 which would make him born around 1789. Since William and Helen were married in Glasgow and Gillis varies to Gillies and Gillice this seems to be the most likely William. I cannot find a matching birth.

Helen Edward born 12 Sep 1784 Elgin to George Edward and Janet Cadie, is the sister of George born 1778, and Ann born 1775, Alexander  1770 Isabel 1772 Elgin, Janet  1776 .
